In this article, I will describe making a base for probably the dumbest figure I’ve done in recent years - a Diddl mouse driving a car. I will use HD styrofoam, plaster, sand (two granulations), PVA glue, pins and palm trees. As for the tools, there will be drills (pin vice and mini electric Proxxon), scalpel, pliers, candle. So let's go…

    Click for enlarged picture

I made the base on two levels from HD styrofoam. I carefully cut it with a scalpel and carved the texture of the rock.

    Click for enlarged picture

    Click for enlarged picture

The miniature of Diddl in the car is actually a pencil extension and between the wheels it had some bump with a pencil hole. I didn’t like that part and it actually prevented the placement of the car on the base so I decided to remove it. I decided that the fastest way would be to use Proxxon drill with a mill. Unfortunately, I didn’t find an adequate mill bit so I used a regular 3mm drill bit. It served its purpose.

To give the HD styrofoam strength, I decided to cover the entire volume of the base with plaster. I mixed a little into the cup and coated the base with a brush. To keep from flowing and potentially sticking the base to the table, I pinned the base to a makeshift skewer stand and the rest of the styrofoam.

The texture is added next. Here I decided to leave the stone parts / rocks without texture, that is, to leave the plaster texture. In addition, there are two other areas - road and "terrain". I covered the road with the finest sand (chinchilla sand), and I covered the "terrain" with GW textured sand. I glued both sands with PVA glue.

And for the end of this article, it’s time to plant palm trees. In order for the joint to be as strong and strong as possible, it is necessary to pin the trees. The simplest way to pin plastic trees is to heat the pin. As it enters the plastic, so it cools and when it cools, the connection it makes with the plastic tree is hard and durable. Then use a drill (in this case, a pin vice) to drill holes in the base for the pin. Then immerse the pin protruding from the tree into the PVA glue and push it into the designed hole.

In the end, I placed all the bits in their place. I was satisfied and I proceeded to paint the diorama and add vegetation. Until next time…

U ovom članku ću opisati izradu baze za vjerojatno najbedastiju figuru koju sam zadnjih godina radio – miš Diddl koji vozi auto. Koristit ću stirodur, gips, pijesak (dvije granulacije), PVA ljepilo, pribadače i palme. Od alata bit će tu bušilice (ručna i mini električna Proxxonica), skalpel, kliješta, svijeća (lučica). Pa krenimo…

    Click for enlarged picture

Pažljivo sam ga izrezao skalpelom i urezao teksturu hridi.

    Click for enlarged picture

    Click for enlarged picture

    Click for enlarged picture

Slijedi dodavanje teksture.

In this short text, I will explain the quick painting of a white uniform.

White parts of the uniform should be basecoated white.

When the white paint dries, coat it with Citadel Contrast Paint Apothecary White.

Watch out for “pooling”. While it is not yet dry, remove the excess Apothecary White from the creases and dents with a clean brush.

In the end, make the highlights white.

TOP TIP: Put some satin varnish into the white to prevent it from becoming chalky when dry.

U ovom kratkom tekstu, objasnit ću brzo bojanje bijele uniforme.

Bijele dijelove uniforme obojajte u bijelo.

Na kraju ponovo istom bijelom bojom izvedite highlighte.

After painting two warbands for Warhammer Underworlds, I wanted to merge them into a diorama that would be nicer to expose than just a single warband, and at the same time, since they are active player models, allow them to take and return to that location without a problem. Therefore the base I will be working on at the same time is the display base - The Grymwatch vs Starblood Stalkers.

    Click for enlarged picture

There was a large base from Bucomodelbases that I got as a prize at this year's Black Queen that I didn’t know for a long time what content to fill it with and how to use and now it has proven to be perfect for this project. On it, I put together models and sketched what I wanted my scene to look like, and when I was satisfied, I started thinking about how to realize it.

First I sketched the model layout on paper. I also drew elevations that I thought would contribute to the dynamics of the scene itself.

The realization could go in hundreds of directions using a large selection of materials, and I eagerly set off with what I had at my disposal at the time.

I made the base level with styrofoam. I had slightly thicker styrofoam than I wanted so it needed to be thinned. With a knife, patiently.

    Click for enlarged picture

Having the blueprint I knew where I needed to make the extra elevations. I also made them, very roughly, from styrofoam to begin with.

    Click for enlarged picture

I made the edges of these hills out of cork. I drew a plan of the hill in cork and cut only that part of the rocky slope. I made a random stone effect with the pliers.

    Click for enlarged picture

Then I drew the positions of the model and made holes with a scalpel. I filled the holes with a milliput to match the size of the base as accurately as possible. This process required patience and precision because I went back to measuring and filling a couple of times, and sometimes grinding because there were too many times.

    Click for enlarged picture

I filled the bases of all models with a milliput and placed a magnet approximately in the middle. The display base was also supposed to have a small magnet to hold the models. After it hardened a few times I marked roughly where the magnet was on the model when it was placed and drilled the place with a drill.

    Click for enlarged picture

Models are set. What remains is to place the milliput on the slopes of the display base itself to cover the styrofoam and to get as smooth and clean an edge as possible.

    Click for enlarged picture

Stiroporom sam napravio osnovnu razinu.

    Click for enlarged picture

Imajući nacrt znao sam gdje trebam napraviti dodatne uzvisine.

    Click for enlarged picture

Rubove tih uzvisina sam radio od pluta. Nacrt uzvisine sam ucrtao u pluto i izrezao samo taj dio kamenite padine. Klještima sam napravio nasumični efekt kamena.

    Click for enlarged picture

Potom sam nacrtao pozicije modela i skalpelom napravio rupe.

    Click for enlarged picture

    Click for enlarged picture

Modeli su postavljeni. Dalje preostaje stavljenje miliputa na obronke same display baze da pokrije stiropor i da dobijem koliko toliko gladak i čist rub.

In this series of articles, we will follow our Goran, Kruno and Marko in the making of a diorama set in New York / Gotham in the mid-1980s. Diorama is being built as part of a new UMS "Agram" project called Agram Group Build, which was created after the trio discussed joint projects to be done on Wednesdays and how cool it would be to gather more people to work on something together… This gave birth to the idea of Group Builds... The idea is for everyone to do something on each of these three projects - the main rule (except that there are no rules) is not to mess with other people's work. That we all participate and make some kind of Frankenstein monster ...

KRUNO: This week’s meeting started in a steampunk atmosphere. In the comfortable armchair of the cafe with a cup of hot green tea and not very pleasant mechanical humming and whining of the powerful air conditioner. We then went to the premises and prepared the workshop space in accordance with the epidemiological measures. Unfortunately we don't have a steampunk camera and projector yet, but as soon as we get one set we will install them. We have now resorted to the kit we have.

After the workshop attendees came and started working under Marko’s supervision, I reviewed what more of the elements for the Group Build diorama I could finish. One trash can and two small gas cylinders were assembled, and then I threw myself into cleaning the resin valves.
    Click for enlarged picture
I quickly concluded that it was quite a risky business, because without print supports the valve wheel is very susceptible to breaking. So I only cleaned two ... one large and one small to test what it looks like when connected to a plasticard tube. Not bad. I am completely satisfied…

This time, the tabletop wargamers worked collectively on the maintenance of their pets and painted them new make-up, clothes, shoes, weapons, etc. It was nice to watch and listen to them. It has now become customary to have in the same room two or three sections of the association doing their tasks. And it's a good feeling.

U ovoj seriji članaka pratit ćemo našeg Gorana, Krunu i Marka u izradi diorame smještene u New York / Gotham sredinom ’80-ih godina 20. stoljeća.

Na žalost još nemamo steampunk kameru i projektor, no čim nabavimo jedan komplet postaviti ćemo ih.

    Click for enlarged picture
Sasvim sam zadovoljan…
    Click for enlarged picture

To make a drone, you first need the basic shape of a ball. I used a widget in this case. It is a hollow plastic ball with a diameter of 30mm that can be found in cans of certain beer brands. The widget is handy for this purpose because it is plastic, and already has a few details on the surface.

To achieve the look of a sci-fi device, we will cover the smooth surface of the ball with details that will make the look of our drone more complex and thus more visually attractive. This process is called greebling. The first details I added were paper circles - waste from an office paper drill.

The next step is rectangles cut out of hard paper and glued to the ball with PVA glue.

Nail decorations are a great source of details and parts for making models. I chose thin sheet metal shapes and attached them with superglue. They need to be bent slightly to follow the curvature of the widget.

The following details come from the world of fishing. These soft plastic tubes are used to attach the float to the flax. They come in several sizes and are easy to cut, so they are great for adding various cylindrical, circular and semicircular elements to the model.

I normally use a mosquito net to make miniature windows and wire fences, and here it is used as a material for detailing.

Back to nail decorations: colorful stones. They are attached with superglue.

Since this is a drone that scans the environment, I wanted it to be full of antennas and sensors to collect data about its environment. I got the basic shapes from the pins. For them, I drilled holes in the widget and stuck them inside + superglue. That's where I installed the wire that connects the drone to the 30mm base.

I made details on the sensors with those fishing tubes and PVA glue. PVA retains a good portion of the volume when it dries, so thickening and the like can be added with it. Eventually I covered the entire surface of the model with diluted PVA to further provide more sensitive details. That's the end, before primer and painting.
